Araghchi: US Partnering with Israel in Insecurity
WANA (Mar 29) – During a meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Araghchi stated that the U.S. military aggression is yet another sign of its partnership in Israel’s violations of international law and the expansion of insecurity in the region.
Hans Grundberg, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, who is in Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi this afternoon.
In the meeting, Araghchi strongly condemned the repeated U.S. military attacks on various parts of Yemen, the killing of Yemeni civilians, and the destruction of homes and infrastructure. He emphasized that the U.S. aggression in Yemen, coinciding with Israel’s escalating genocide in Gaza and its attacks on Lebanon and Syria, is merely another indication of Washington’s alignment with Israel’s violations and its role in fueling regional instability.
Expressing regret over what he described as the U.S.’s unrealistic perception of Yemen and the region, Araghchi stressed that American policymakers must recognize that the root cause of insecurity in the region is the continued occupation and genocide in Palestine. He added that the U.S. cannot claim to be restoring stability while bombing Yemen and killing innocent civilians, whose only “crime” is expressing solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people.
Araghchi also criticized the UN Security Council for its inaction regarding Israel and the U.S.’s blatant violations of the UN Charter and international law. He called for an urgent and effective UN response to stop these violations and the erosion of international norms.
The UN Special Envoy for Yemen congratulated Araghchi on the occasions of Nowruz and Eid al-Fitr and expressed appreciation for Iran’s continued support of the UN’s efforts to advance the peace process in Yemen.
Grundberg also provided a report on his recent trip to Brussels and his consultations with EU officials, as well as the latest UN efforts to improve the situation in Yemen and establish peace. He stressed that achieving stability in Yemen is an urgent necessity not only for Yemenis but for the security and stability of the entire region, and the UN will utilize all its capacities to achieve this goal.
